    Default COMBINED GAMES THREAD: League Cup and both CWC games.

    As there're hardly enough punters around here to justify the forums, let alone separate threads for 3 games in 5(?) days across 2 continents, let's wrap them all together in this thread.

    My knowledge of our U23 and reserve sides is not very deep, so it's pointless for me to try to guess Critchley's side for the Villa game. You'd have to think that with a semi-final looming large on the horizon, Villa are going to play a full strength side against our youngsters. I see the betting is 11/1 us and 1/5 them.

    I suppose the only thing we've got going for us is the element of surprise, but without even a smattering of senior players and Klopp and the backroom staff, I think those odds are, unfortunately, about right. If we keep it within 2, I think that'll almost count as a moral victory. Still, you can but hope!

    Virgil didn't train today. Hoping that's just a precaution.

    For the Villa game, Brewster and Larouci are both injured, but may be recovered in time. One of the LFC websites has 2 possible teams depending on the fitness of the above 2.

    Kelleher;

    Hoever, Van den Berg, Boyes, Gallacher;

    Chirivella, Kane, Dixon-Bonner;

    Elliott, Longstaff, Christie-Davies.

    Or

    Kelleher;

    Gallacher, Hoever, Van den Berg, Larouci;

    Chirivella, Kane, Christie-Davies;

    Elliott, Longstaff, Brewster.

    Obviously, Kelleher, Hoever, Van den Berg & Elliott are familiar. I've not really seen the others (aside from a bit of pre-season Chirivella). Will be good to watch them in action and see what they have.

    Interesting take from Ian Ladyman of the Mail on whether the club should focus on the CWC or League Cup. His view is that 'no one' cares about the Club World Cup, but from my interaction with other Liverpool fans, there seems to be a much stronger preference for us to take the CWC seriously than the League Cup.

    I would probably have a more informed opinion if I understood the financial incentives involved for the EFL and FIFA. To me it's all fixture clutter although I probably favor the road trip to the warm, corrupt petro-state over the proverbial cold visit to Stoke. It all looks like support-our-bureaucracy-with-money-from-tickets-sold-by-Mo-Salah-for-free!

    But then I'm something of a starry-eyed romantic. /S
    ‘How many mistakes are you allowed?’ Klopp asked the fourth official. ‘Because if it’s 15, you’ve got one left.’

    Yes, yes you are.

    We've won the League Cup, never the CWC, so I'd prefer the CWC.

    Oh-Ho! Al-Hilal lead Flamengo 1-0. 23 minutes gone.
