With respect to your point, I'm not sure what his value is, but I agree that Liverpool wouldn't sell him at that price. That said, not sure anyone would pay more than that, really, either. Which means he stays.
On the subject of Athleticism, who do you read in the papers that's not behind a paywall? For me Chris Bascome, Jonathan Wilson, Melissa Reddy, and Sid Lowe. That's about it. The Athletic seems to have hired everyone else.

Don't really pay much attention to the names, but those all seem really familiar (but I couldn't tell you which papers they work for). I pretty much cycle through the Guardian, the Echo, the Mail & the NewsNow aggregator on a daily basis.

All of the above. My biggest problem with the excellent Melissa Reddy is that by the time The Independent website has loaded (like The Liverpool Echo), about a year of your life has evaporated.

I (used to) feel your pain. I'm using the Brave browser these days which seems to load faster. Not because I *use* an Ad Blocker on top of it but because the browser itself *is* an Ad Blocker. Oh and it makes your laundry brighter. /S [End of commercial]

Then again I'm using a Windows PC (geezer alert!) not a phone. That may not match the device(s) you're using.

Things become a little clearer. When we played Norwich I remember thinking that while Cantwell was a handy player, I wasn't entirely sure why there was a fair bit of buzz around his moving to Liverpool. An article in the Liverpool Echo about the PL rules on homegrown and international players goes a long way to explaining the interest (if there is any) in Cantwell and possible/probable targets and exits in the summer.

Firstly, having had a very quiet summer window and only Minamino in the winter window, the conventional wisdom says Liverpool will be investing in the upcoming window. There is a PL requirement for the make up of the squad that of the 25 man squad, there can be no more than 17 overseas players and there has to be 8 homegrown players. If they don't meet these numbers, they can only name a 23 man squad.

At present the homegrown players are Chirivella, Clyne, Gomez, Henderson, Lallana, Lonergan, Milner and AOC. I have wondered why Lonergan has stayed with the club. Obviously this doesn't include TAA, Kelleher, Jones, Williams plus the likes of Wilson, Kane and Phillips, but so far they've been counted as U21 players; TAA will make the jump as will Kelleher. There's a decent chance that Jones and Williams will also make the cut. Clyne is probably gone along with Lonergan and probably Lallana and maybe Chrivella. But as you can see, this homegrown rule will affect the number of domestic players. U21 players do not count against either quota, but decisions will still have to be made about the likes of Brewster, Elliott, Glatzel, Hoever, Larouci, Lewis, van den Berg and Woodburn

The overseas players currently stand at 17, the maximum allowed. But this includes Karius and Grujic, and, surprisingly, Robertson. Players on the 25 man squad can be loaned out and still count against the quota. So you'd imagine Karius will be gone and probably Grujic, but if Klopp is looking to bring in international stars such as Werner and more, then there'll have to be more exits. Shaqiri? Lovern? Sancho would qualify as a homegrown player should he move, so for that reason, more than Liverpool will be very interested in him and his price will reflect that premium for English sides.

Things have become a little clearer, but this is the football version of musical chairs. It's going to be interesting to see the make up of that 25 man squad for next season.

Thanks, that's useful. Unless one of Mane or Salah leaves, I really don't see us in for Sancho. I think Werner seems odds-on, regardless.

Foreign player quota aside, if Mane or Salah left, I'd go all out for Mbappe over Sancho (even for the extra £100mm).

Is Kevin de Bruyne considered 'home grown'? I know he was a Chelsea junior. At least we can offer him Champions League football and he was a Liverpool supporter as a kid.
