Default Southampton v Liverpool: Saints to be spanked on the sea-shore by the Scousers

After claiming our first silverware of the season in Istanbul, Liverpool travel down to the South coast to face Southampton. Hasenhuettel's team got mauled by Burnley last week, so you'd like to think we'd have their number (and we usually do).

The only real question is how will Klopp set up and who will be fit after Wednesday's exertions?

Hendo & Fabinho played the full 120 minutes, cramps and all, so wondering if our midfield gets a refresh.

    Dave's team:

    Adrian

    TAA Gomez VvD Robertson

    Gini Fabinho Ox

    Salah Firmino Mane

    Jesus! Adrián injured.

There’s a Twitter video doing the rounds. After he saved from Abraham and was being mobbed by the team, a pitch invader ran towards the clump of players and was taken down by a steward. But both slid into the players and Adrián got walloped on the ankle. Which has now swollen up. He’ll probably be OK, but Lonergan and Kelleher are on standby.

I seriously suggest not having all possible keepers travel in the same car.

‘How many mistakes are you allowed?’ Klopp asked the fourth official. ‘Because if it’s 15, you’ve got one left.’

Avoided this banana skin - barely. Crazy scheduling so close to Istanbul, freak injury to Adrian, gutted our way through an uninspired performance thanks to Mane and Firmino primarily. Adrian made it really exciting. Got a few days to rest up.

3 o'clock game, so only caught the highlights on MoTD. Still not firing on all cylinders, but our quality shone through in the end with our front three.

We will need to power through this period, but we still have maximum points so far, so let's focus on the positives, shall we?

Okay - City have fallen 2 points behind and the league race is over. They are condemned to a long, dispiriting stern chase followed closely by our inevitable coronation as league champions.

Pep Guardiola sees the handwriting on the wall and resigns his post to join a monastery in India doing good works among the poor.

    Sufficiently upbeat?

    No resolution. It'd never sell.

Very unusally for me, I've now missed two consecutive Liverpool games, so only saw the MOTD highlights. Adrian's blooper to reminiscent of Karius in the CL final. Allison can't come back quickly enough, though Adrian's save from the corner in the first half was top notch. VVD looked a little off the mark, but Robertson was his usual committed self.

But have no doubt this was a game that was set up for us to lose and perhaps a better side might have punished us, but in truth this was the gritty type of win that champions find. Whether or not we will be champions is another thing. Also, and I think many of us have recognized this instinctively - is there a better manager at making the halftime reads and adjustments? I've always felt that even 2 or 3 goals down at the half (granted it doesn't happen often), we'll be fine because of Klopp's halftime changes.
