Default Spartak Moscow v Liverpool: To Moscow, with Malice

Off to Moscow for our first away game against the group's top seed (as winner of the Russian League). I don't envy the away travellers and hope they all come back safe and sound. Russian ultras are a nasty lot and Spartak are no exception.

After the mildly disappointing draw against Sevilla, we need a good performance and a result against a Moscow side going through some of its own difficulties right now.

    Dave's team:

    Mignolet

    TAA Matip Lovren Robertson

    Milner Henderson

    Salah Coutinho Mane

    Firmino

I think very important to ease the pressure by putting 3 points on the board in a tricky away fixture. They go to Sevilla with no fans (I believe) next game, so a win here and then away in what shouldbe the easiest game in the group at Maribor could see both us and Sevilla sitting on 7 points with Spartak and Maribor on 1 halfway through the group stages. Almost job done.

I think Karius is set to start, I'm really not a fan of this goalkeeper rotation and I can't see how it helps settle our defence, but Klopp is the boss.

Gini I think is certain to make way for someone who is a little more noticeable on the pitch away from home. A point isn't a bad result but really being -2 points after the first game, this needs to be turned into a win.

That front 4 will scare any team in the world, let them go at it. We have Sturridge able to come in Sunday if needed but we have a decent break Tuesday - Sunday anyway, and Sadio and Phil are fresh. LEts have at them! Early goal try and quiet the crowd. Watch out for the missiles.

Pressure, killing ‘em. Spartak can’t even get out of their box let alone half, let alone mount an attack. So, 1-0 to Spartak soon?

    Coutinho! Good goal.

Karius to blame on their goal, in my opinion.

    From the Burnley thread…

The secret is out. It's not necessarily play your set pieces or corners well and you'll score, though usually that'll be so. No, it's play 2 banks of 4 or a 4 and a 3 and stick heroically to it. Then sit back and wait. Liverpool will serve up your opportunity. Usually more than once.

Unless we win in Seville, that’s probably the result that consigns us to second place.

BTW, our January/February dour run was 1 win in 11 in all competitions. We still on track for that.

Spartak were utter crap, but they're good at parking the bus. Sheesh what a frustrating game to watch. Migs saves that free kick.
