Default Question about the Pier 40 football...

I forgot to ask last night.

How does the Friday football nights workout?
Is it in participation with a league?
How long does it run and from what time to when?
Can we wear studs and how does the pitch feel?
How much will this cost per person?
    Any other general info, please.

    Default Pier 40 football

The Friday night footie games at Pier 40 start in December and end in March. The time slot we have is 8:30-10:00. The field is a synthetic grass field outdoors on the hudson river. The best football shoes are ones geared for artifical turf such as Adidas Mundial Turf. Regular runners or indoor shoes would probably be ok too. The pitch is more like grass than artifical turf, and is quite forgiving. It gets slick when it rains, and can be fast in similar weather.

The format is a pick up game, where anyone is welcome. There is a $10 admission fee for club members, but it is well worth it.

No studs, I'm assuming? All I have are my soft ground cleats, but can get others if needed.

You can wear studs but they have to be hard ground ones (I wear studs sometimes) but I would recommend turf shoes to be on the safe side.

How's the pitch feel as well? Does it break easily? I usually play keeper and my body is falling apart from years of abuse. The softer the better. I've never played on synthetic before so I'm pretty excited about it.

The synthetic turf gives allot, I think you will be pleasantly surprised by it.

Haven't played on Pier 40, but also a keeper and have played all over the city, including the old, hard-as-concrete astoturf.

Long pants and shirts are a must. While the new turf does give and gives a reasonable approximation of grass in terms of how the ball reacts, it will gladly scrape off a layer of your skin if you choose to slide across it.

    I bear the scars.

I know the feeling, Big Dave. Texas turf is basically no existent in terms of true natural properties. It's basically dry grass on hard clay. My knees never cease to remind me. I'm sure pants will be in order anyway for December.
