Biggest question to be answered in the off season will be the status of Dalglish - I've said in another thread based on nothing, that I think he's going to go. The next biggest question will be the amount of the spend, followed by players bought and sold/let go (Skrtel?).

There's very little LFC did this season to attract top names or make anyone believe that next season will be anything more than a marginal improvement. Though having said that, at least we won't have the Suarez imbroglio (he said hopefully). CL football looks to be over the hill, down the dale and through the enchanted forest away.

Few positives and no huge cause for optimism.

I think few on the forum would argue, we're in need of a serious team overhaul in the summer. No use worrying about what we paid for players. We should simply focus on whether those players are of any use to us and if not, what can we get for them to add to the £20mm or so that Kenny says he has to spend. No big-name purchases for us, so we need to be clever about getting some value this time around (screw young & British for sake of young & Britishness alone...)

Probably easiest to think about this by position...

GK:
Starter: Reina
Backup: One of Doni, Jones or Gulasci

Would prefer the understudy be Gulasci. See no reason to keep either Jones or Doni, if we can get any cash for them and reduce the wage bill.

RB:
Starter: Johnson
Backups: Kelly/Flanagan

If Real come in with a silly bid for Johnson, I'd probably take it, but otherwise he continues to start, with Kelly his understudy. Flanno goes on loan to get some experience.

LB:
Starter: Enrique
Backups: Robinson

Aurelio is still on the books and there's no need to continue paying him. Ship him off. Johnson can cover at LB, if need be, so don't see the need to purchase another player.

CB:
Starters: Skrtel & Agger
Backups: Carra & Coates

Coates is my preferred backup, with Carra seeing out his last season with hopefully less playing time. Kelly can always slot in, so probably happy to not buy another CB at the moment.

Wilson comes back from loan. Not sure he'll make the grade, so probably OK to see him go.

DM:
Starter: Lucas
Backup: Gerrard

Would consider purchasing a backup here, as I don't think Spearing cuts it. In a pinch, Stevie can always play from the back. Spearing has to go, I think.

RM&LM:
Don't even know who should start on the left & right next season. I think we need two new ones.

Of those around, I'd keep Bellamy (and Maxi, but it sounds like he wants to leave). I'd keep Henderson too, but don't think he plays well on the wings.

I see Kuyt & Maxi leaving of their own accord. I've given Downing a season and I've seen enough. He can sod off.

CM:
Stevie, Hendo & Shelvey are the only players I'd keep for sure. We have Cole & Aquilani returning from loan, but I don't expect to see them stick around (although we should consider keeping them).

I would ship out Adam, at this point, so it's Adam, Aquilani & Cole out. We will need another one, of the playmaker mould.

ST:
Suarez & Carroll have done enough to stick around for another season. Bellamy is fine in the rotation, but we clearly need one more striker.

So to recap...

Out:
Doni
Jones
Aurelio
Wilson
Spearing
Kuyt
Maxi
Downing
Adam
Aquilani
Cole

In:
RM
LM
CM (Playmaker)
ST

There's a few older never-made-the-grades, which we should also consider gettting shot of:
- Darby
- Pacheco
- Eccleston

Clearly this is Fantasy Football-type reengineering, but I don't see how anything other than a complete gutting of the current set-up gets us anywhere closer to the Champions League. Newcastle have shown that you can get players to click in one season, so there's no reason we can't attempt the same.

Would expect some rotation tonight, a fading Fulham who are safe in mid-table should be dispatched by a few, however our record at home doesn't allow for that, andI'll probably not put my weekend winnings on anything silly.

If he's going to rotate, and ever their is an opportunity to give Raheem Stirling a "safe" run-out then this is it. I have no idea if he's even being considered.
A line-up I might expect to see with Saturday in mind;

Have I missed something? I know I just posted a pic of my cup final ticket before a league game but I couldn't see a thread for a game we play in 6 1/2 hours time?!

To be fair, I said to Connie I wasn't that bothered. Which is a real shame. The game being on ESPN means I have to go to a boozer and drink soft drinks as I have the Greater Manchester marathon tomorrow. And it kind of narks me!

Not seen the travelling squad so don't know of any surprise inclusions. But really would be nice if Sterling at least got on the bench.

Will he rest players? Or will he run close to the final team in preparation? Can't guess it myself but I hope he goes with Carroll & Suarez up top. Need to keep playing them to see if it even shows signs of working before changes are made in the summer.

At the back would be nice to see no mistakes today. Back to the solid back 4 with Johnson & Agger now having some match fitness back.

In the middle of the park hopefully Stevie G gets a run, I have the nagging thought he'll coast through the game ready for his Stevie Me cup final performance.

I want Jordan Henderson to work and still have a bit of faith in the club footed lad, so if either him or Shelvey start I'll be pleased.

All a bit down about the team currently but Norwich have run out of a bit of steam recently and this really is still a game we should be winning. Surely.

Hearing that Pep Guardiola has told Barca he is leaving this summer. So where does he go? Surely there is a deal in place?

United? - Siralex may well step down if he reaches his magical 20 titles this season. I think he knows he won't get to our 5 European Cups in his lifetime and the reality of even getting them to 4, so he matches Sir Bob's 3 is unlikely. If he doesn't win the league I have a feeling his mentality is to go out on a high, so will continue on, which I would love as they are on the decline with other teams certain to improve in coming seasons.

Chelsea? - RDM has done very well, can you shift him if he wins the Champs League? Surely not. But Roman wouldn't be short of cash for him to spend and I expect he would be able to bring a number of players in with him from Barca and other teams who would love to play under him.

Citeh? - If he's after the $$$ then this could be where the deal is cut. The writing seems to be on the wall for Mancini and has been for years. I would expect they sack him the day after they win the league! European domination is what they are after and Pep fits the bill.

Liverpool? - Can't afford the wages nor the support to buy players. He would suit our club perfectly but I don't think we are big enough for him. And that's a sad fact these days.

England? - Ha. :o
