Here's an interesting story from the US league.

Jonathan Bornstein was the biggest bargain in Major League Soccer this season.
Bornstein, the versatile rookie who plays for Chivas USA and Coach Bob Bradley, led all outfield players with 2,878 minutes played while earning the league minimum salary of $28,000. That roughly translates to $10 for each Bornstein played, a deal in any league in the world. “I’ve been living comfortably,” Bornstein said in a telephone interview. “I do a little personal training on the side.” Bornstein, the son of an American father and a Mexican mother who was drafted by Chivas from U.C.L.A., is likely to be the league’s rookie of the year.
